چکیده

Motivated by the negative impact of fossil fuel consumption on environment, need arises to produce materials and energy from renewable sources. Cellulose, main biopolymer Earth, plays a key role in this context, serving as platform for development biofuels, chemicals novel materials. Among latter, micro- nanocellulose have been receiving increasing attention last few years. Their many attractive properties, i.e., thermal stability, high mechanical resistance, barrier lightweight, optical transparency ease chemical modification, allow their use wide range applications, such paper or polymer reinforcement, packaging, construction, membranes, bioplastics, bioengineering, optics electronics. In view demand traditional wood pulp (e.g., obtained eucalypt, birch, pine, spruce) micro/nanocellulose production, dedicated crops agricultural residues can be interesting raw purpose. This work aims at achieving microfibrillated cellulose production fast-growing poplar olive tree pruning using physical pretreatment (PFI refining) before microfibrillation stage. Both yielded with similar properties that commercial industrial eucalypt pulp, producing films low wettability. According these different applications microfibers suspensions are discussed.

Biomimetic Aerogels from Microfibrillated Cellulose and Xyloglucan

Aerogels refer to a new class of materials holding air in their structure. They are highly porous solids having a large inner surface area. They are extremely light, low heat conductive, and high sound absorbent materials. Therefore, aerogels have excellent performance in applications such as heat insulators, particle filters, particle trappers, and catalyst carriers 1 . Aerogels are prepared s...

Endophytic Fungi as Pretreatment to Enhance Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Olive Tree Pruning

Olive tree pruning, as one of the most abundant lignocellulosic residues in Mediterranean countries, has been evaluated as a source of sugars for fuel and chemicals production. A mild acid pretreatment has been combined with a fungal pretreatment using either two endophytes (Ulocladium sp. and Hormonema sp.) or a saprophyte (Trametes sp. I-62). The use of endophytes is based on the important ro...

Lignin-enriched Fermentation Residues from Bioethanol Production of Fast-growing Poplar and Forage Sorghum

The current challenges in developing a cost-effective bioethanol industry include the production of not only high-volume, low cost biofuels but also high-value products with minimal downstream waste. The up-grading of side-stream lignins from bioethanol production plants to novel high-value products will improve the profitability of the bioethanol industry; to do that, a precise understanding o...
